Hello again, chorus members.  If you need a black music folder for the concert, they can be ordered online from musicfolder.com or purchased from a music store. Any version is okay.  Also, the chorus has a few extras to loan out. Check with a board member on Thursday if you have questions.

Thanks!

Messiah on December 6

Anna and Val asked me to pass this message along to everyone. The annual Messiah choir is open to the community if you want some extra music in your life.

Hi all Messiah enthusiasts. We are performing Handel’s Messiah for Christmas season again. We will perform December 6. Practices will start this Sunday October 18th 7:00 PM. October 18 and 25 will be sectionals especially helpful to those who need a little extra help with their part but I would like as many as can to come. Starting November 1 we will begin working as a whole chorus.
Katya Eaddy will be conducting this year. She has conducted for us a couple of times a few years ago.

See you all Sunday.

Latin Musings

Last week Anna worked us through the Latin songs for this semester. If you want some extra practice on Rudolphus Rubrinasus check out this YouTube video. It is much slower and a stylize version of the song, but it might help you through some of the rough spots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcIsZgnKJBQ

Recitals, Rehearsals, and Rewards

Comments Off on Recitals, Rehearsals, and Rewards

As Anna announced during rehearsal on Wednesday, the Chorus was invited to perform at the Mat-Su College Faculty Recital on November 23!  It’s exciting because we get to display our talents to a new audience and because it’s a chance to perform in the new Glenn Massay Theater.  If you haven’t been to this beautiful new facility yet, check it out online and plan to attend a concert, lecture, or play.

The time of our performance at the recital is still being determined. Will update you soon.

Remember, Anna will arrive at rehearsal 30 minutes ahead of time each week. If you want extra help or something reviewed, just ask her. She’s a wonderful teacher and enjoys working with new members. We were all new once! Most of us don’t have formal training in music so don’t be afraid to ask Anna or your fellow singers for help.

Remember to sign up for Fred Meyers Community Rewards program to help the chorus sustain itself and grow. Details are under the Sponsorship tab.

Welcome new (and “experienced”) members!

A wonderful group of excited and talented singers gathered last Thursday for the initial rehearsal of the Mat-Su Community Chorus 2015-16 season!  Welcome new members! It is great to have you join us. And welcome back continuing members!  Did you notice a few people missing in your section? Give them a call and remind them that it is time to sing.  There is still time for new members to join and potential members to come check us out. We’ll meet again Thursday, 9/17/15 at 7:00 pm at the WHS choir room.

Last week we learned about the hyoid bone situated at the top of the larynx and its connection to singing freely.  Thank you Sharon for arranging a visit from Alisa Rector of Mountain Magic Occupational Therapy.  Anna also talked about the importance of good DICTION so that we can be understood by our audience.  I’m sure we’ll hear more about that as the year goes on since it is so important to the tone and quality of our sound and because it can be terribly hard to overcome old habits!  Here’s a YouTube video with some tips on good diction in singing. Watch the first 3 minutes for a quick lesson in forming clear, bright, and resonant vowel sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhWceQSuXzQ
