Join us for our first rehearsal of the year and our welcome social this coming Thursday, Sept 8 at 7:00 pm in the Wasilla High School choir room. All are invited so if you know someone who’s been thinking about joining, now is the time to bring them along! Please spread the word. Remember, new interested singers can attend during September to check us out and find out more about membership.  Tell your friends that we are a non-audition group but some experience singing is helpful.  Anna has lots of wonderful songs picked out for us for our upcoming concerts.

Here are the new MCC Board officers for the coming year.

Upcoming Concert Season

Comments Off on Upcoming Concert Season

Greetings Singers, Musicians, and Fans–

Summer in Alaska – could life get any better? Well, yes, it could. Everything gets better when you add music! So let’s think ahead to next concert season!  Our tentative start date (we have to wait until Wasilla High School is back in sessions to confirm our rehearsal space) is September 8 at 7:00 p.m.  Start thinking about who you could invite to join the chorus this next year.

Board members — the annual meeting is Thursday, July 28 6 – 8 pm at Lois’s house.  Call if you need directions.

Musically yours,

Sandy Gravley, MCC Board President

Colony Days – Garage Sale and Parade

Comments Off on Colony Days – Garage Sale and Parade

Have items for this weekend’s garage sale? Anna Hammon may be able to pick things up from you on Friday evening. Call her at 907-414-3471 or email at sweetdog109@gmail.com

Here are the details: Saturday, June 11th, 9a to 5p @ 523 S Alaska, Palmer AK

Set up begins at 8:00 a.m. Bring a table if you have one and price your items appropriately.  This location is across the street from the Valley Hotel/Turkey Red – right on the parade route!

And, speaking of the parade.  We have a spot in it and need a few more people to walk in the parade.  It should be fun and is a great way to promote the chorus and let people know about us.

Our garage sale last year brought in over $600 due to your generous donations and willingness to help. Let’s top that number this year. It looks like it will be a beautiful day and lots of people will be out and about for Colony Days and the AK Native Gathering nearby so let’s support the chorus.  Call Anna Hammon at the number above if you have questions or can help.

See you all there.

Sandy

Mat-Su Community Chorus Garage Sale!

Here’s a message from Anna Hammon on this year’s summer fundraiser.

Attention Choir Members

We need help for our garage sale fundraiser!

Here are the details: Saturday, June 11th, 9a to 5p 523 S Alaska, Palmer AK

We are looking for people to supply folding tables (preferably 6ft in length, but anything will work), tents and items to sell. Materials such as paper, pens and tape for signs and tags would also be helpful.

We also need people to donate some of their time to help set up, run the sale, and break down whatever is left. The sale will open at 9a, with setup beginning at 8a. The schedule is below – it would be good to have at least two people per shift. The more we have the better, though!

I plan to be there from start to finish, but would love a chance to walk around a little if there is enough help.

Please contact me (Anna Hamman) via phone at 907-414-3471 or email at sweetdog109@gmail.com if you can help in any of these areas!

A big thanks to Christine for her help in planning this, also.

Our concert day – May 14 – is almost here!  Encourage your family and friends to enjoy a beautiful Saturday morning and afternoon and then cap it off with a spectacular concert evening, Music Makes a New Day.  Concert begins at 7:00 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran on Bogard Road in Wasilla.

Chorus members: call time is 5:00. Bring your beautiful voices and remember to turn in all music at the end of the concert.  Plans are in the works to meet for dinner afterwards, possibly at Haciendas.

Rehearsal on Thursday

It’s getting close to performance time, everyone! Rehearsals have been going great but we still have lots of work to do.  Come ready to run through every song on Thursday night. Remember to spend some time viewing other choral groups online on YouTube. Anna wants us to watch and learn – see how they use intonation, diction, tone and phrasing to make or break a performance.

If you are performing a solo, duet, or group piece at our concerts this term, outside of the music that Anna chose for all of us, please send me an email with the name of the song, composer and/or arranger, and names of all singers. I want to include everyone in the program correctly.  Send it to: sg4967@gmail.com Thanks!

One last thing, if you haven’t gotten your sponsor funds turned in yet, please do so ASAP. Linda will collect those and pass the names on to me for inclusion in the program. We can also include ads in the program if you know anyone who wants to get their name out there. Bring their business card and a check for $50 to practice on Thursday.

I hope you are inviting family and friends to our concerts in Willow on April 30 (4pm Willow Community Ctr) and in Wasilla on May 14(7pm Good Shepherd Lutheran)!

Change of location for tonight’s rehearsal

Comments Off on Change of location for tonight’s rehearsal

Singers – the MSBSD has closed schools due to icy road conditions in some parts of the borough.  We won’t be able to use Wasilla High for rehearsal tonight.  Lois and Mike have graciously offered to host rehearsal at their house instead.

With some luck, the roads will be good enough to allow safe travel everywhere by this evening.  Hope to see you there.  Thanks Mike & Lois!

New Members & Homework!

Comments Off on New Members & Homework!

Wasn’t practice fun last week? Anna was really jazzed up about all she learned at her music teachers’ conference.  Be sure to review the handout on Good Vocal Technique that she shared last week. We can really improve our diction and tone with simple changes. Our audiences will love it!

Homework for this Thursday besides reviewing the Good Vocal Technique handout: number the measures in your music. Just pencil in the count for each measure so we can quickly locate our starting point when rehearsing. Also, practice the pronunciation of words to Ose Shalom. Words are written phonetically on the inside cover.

New members are still welcome to join. Check us out during January and stay through May!  Concert dates are posted under “Concerts,”  See you all Thursday!

A new season – think SPRING!

Comments Off on A new season – think SPRING!

Rehearsals for our spring concert series begin this Thursday, January 7 at Wasilla High school in the choir room.  See you at 7:00 pm.  Bring a friend.  New members are welcome to come sing with us and check out the chorus. We think you’ll agree this is the best way to chase away the winter blues and gear up for spring!

For membership details, read more about us under membership and the other links above.

See you Thursday!
